Ranger-Led Fiery Furnace Reservations Options

Fiery Furnace is open to all hikers over 5 years old. Hike time on a ranger-guided tour is 2.5 hours. Tour cost is $16 per person. There are two types of ranger tours offered by the park: morning ranger-led tours at 9:00 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. which can be booked online ahead of time and the afternoon first-come first-serve ranger-led tour at 3:00 p.m. which can only be booked in person at the Visitor Center up to 7 days prior.

MAKE YOUR RESERVATION

This is a sad truth, but for the most part you'll need to be extremely strategic about your booking. Booking over the internet you are effectively competing with the entire world-wide web and at times trying to acquire this permit feels like the national park hunger games. You'll need two things: a stop watch and a fast computer. Do not try to book your ticket on your phone - you'll lose. Also, you'll need to practice this ahead of time. Set up an account, set your stop watch and before the time hits 8 am MT set up your date and the number of people. When the clock hits 8:00:00 and the website shows availability click on add to cart. If your computer took a while to add the ticket to your cart and by that time all tickets were sold out, you'll need a faster computer! If you didn't get the tickets on the first try, keep refreshing. More often than not some tickets will becomes available a few minutes after 8:00 because there will be people like you testing the system and some tickets will go back into the pool after the carts clear.

PICK UP YOUR TICKET

You can pick up your ticket at the Visitor Center 4 days prior and up to one hour before the start of the tour. The Visitor Center is open from 7:30 a.m to 6 p.m. May through September. The Visitor Center is located a short 2 miles outside of Moab, but by 8 a.m. there might already be a line at the gate to get into the park itself so plan on arriving before 8 a.m. You don't want to miss your tour because of a line at the park entrance. If you're coming in the day before to pick up your ticket, avoid arriving between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. - that's when the line at the gates can be up to an hour long.

Travel To Trailhead

Once you have your ticket, you will drive to the trailhead on your own to meet the ranger. There you will park your vehicle. The trailhead is about 15 miles from the Visitor Center so it will take you a half hour to get there. Be there a little earlier to use the trailhead restroom and get your belongings in order. There is no water available at this trailhead so fill up your bottles at the Visitor Center. If you're planning on staying in the park afterwards, plan accordingly. Food and drink can only be bought in Moab so bring everything along otherwise you'll have a long drive back.

A lucky few will have a chance to book a last minute tour either online or in person at Arches Visitor Center. Here are some strategies.

Cancelations do happen so continue to check for your dates online, Make a reminder for yourself and check daily. It’s worth it! With a ranger tour ticket you are guaranteed to hike the Fiery Furnace!

Pre-PLAN YOUR TRIP

If you can plan your trip to Moab to give yourself a couple of days there (you won’t regret it), and if you do, you’re now in a better position to secure a spot on the afternoon walk-in ranger-led tour.

GET IT FIRST

The Visitor Center should be your first stop in Moab. If arriving in the morning, be there way before the Visitor Center opens so you’re first in line! That can sometimes make all the difference!

Still looking for a ranger tour? You can book a walk-in afternoon first-come first-serve tour in person only at Arches Visitor Center. Make sure you visit the Visitor Center as soon as you get into town to try and secure a ticket. If still sold out, ask about a permit to do the hike on your own.
