You’ve read about the hike, you’ve read the reviews and you feel a little bit of hesitation. The reviews mention the complex landscape, hikers getting disoriented, and you’re thinking this is not for me. That could not be further from the truth.
Yes, it takes about 3-4 times of being guided by someone who knows the hike before one can remember the whole way. This has been an issue with the Fiery Furnace from the beginning. For many years the park service allowed commercial guides to take people through. In 2017 commercial tours were banned and now you can only do the hike either on your own or a park ranger led tour.
The park ranger led tours are good, but you will be hiking in a large group which is not the experience you really want to have in the Fiery Furnace. The Fiery Furnace is so spectacular and so unique and has to many places to explore that you don’t want to be tied to a large group, limited by their pace and their track. Many people describe the Fiery Furnace as a playground and some compare hiking it to being inside a video game. Those experiences can only be achieved if you’re hiking to Fiery Furnace on your OWN!
With our downloadable trail info you will not miss any of the hidden treasures – all nine of the arches – and you will gain so much by being able to explore it on your own, at your own pace. Feel like a kid again and do it on your OWN!
